David was born in England and grew up in Manitoba where he studied
Advertising Art at right after High school. Feeling a need for
adventure and a little life experience David moved out West to
Alberta where he worked
for Banff National Park and on his spare time did canoeing, hiking,
rock climbing, tai chi and sketching. From there he traveled
with a friend to South East Asia where he practiced martial arts,
discovered Asian comics and had many adventures. This four-month
experience renewed his interest in the martial arts and art .Not
to mention he was happy to have survived the experience and be
back in Canada. It was now time to get serious about his
art .He moved to Vancouver, British Columbia where he started
his own line of Fantastic gift items. This included T-shirt designs,
greeting cards, posters, and gargoyle sculptures to sell in gifts
shops. David then decided to improve on his painting skills
and went back to school to study fine art at Langara College.
This is where he discovered he was best suited to illustrative
work and decided to explore children's book illustration, gaming
art, and comic book illustration. A logical choice considering
his love of art, the wilderness, martial arts, and adventure.
Such authors as J.R.R. Tolkien, Edgar Rice Bouroughs, and C.S.
Lewis have also largely influenced his illustration, as well
as Fantastic artists such as Frank Frazetta, Mobius, John Buchema,
and Charles Vess. David has a wonderful ability to marry words
and images in a powerful, sensitive and believable manner. Thus
engaging the viewer and taking them into a fantastical world
of action and adventure. |
